Does God Have You In a New Season?

Reading Time: 5 minutes

Does God have you in a new season of life?  As spring warms the ground in Texas and Bluebonnets begin to makes their appearance, life lessons about God are taught through them.  Bluebonnets don’t always bloom in the same areas each year.  This made me think of how God calls us to serve in different places in different seasons.  Not only is it Bluebonnet season, it is also rodeo season in Texas and the time of year Texans celebrate all things Texas.

Texas is a unique place.  Those who are born and raised in Texas can’t explain it and those on the outside can’t understand it.

As we raised kids in the country, horses, dogs, and chickens were a big part of our lives.  Our two daughters learned to ride a horse before they learned to ride a bicycle.  This is our oldest daughter riding with the Catalina Cowgirls in a parade in Austin at the Texas state capitol this year.  My daughter is the third one from the left on her pretty paint horse, Ace.  Riding with the Cowgirls is an honor and such fun for her.  We love our state and our Texas way of life.

From the limestone and clear, spring fed Frio River deep in the hill country to the sound of the waves and sea gulls of the Gulf of Mexico, there is no place like Texas.  We don’t joke around about tacos, salsa, barbeque, bluebonnets, pickup trucks, our boots, or our Texas flag.  They are serious business.  Texans love Texas.  It is a unique state with wide-open spaces and lots of fresh air.  You can drive from sun up ‘til sun down and still be in Texas.

Bluebonnets are a part of what make Texas special.

Texas is a glorious place God paints in magnificent, colorful wild flowers that magically appear one clear, spring morning.

The most notable wildflower, of course, is the Bluebonnet.  We love our state flower.  In fact, people come from all over the world to take pictures in these bright, blue flowers.

The other day looking through some old pictures, I remembered the beauty of one warm spring day from the past   I found a picture of my two girls playing in the bluebonnets 25 years ago.  Today, that same spot has no bluebonnets at all and our girls have grown and gone on to their own lives but life is still good, just different.

When we moved here years ago, Bluebonnets grew all over our property. Now we have only a few.  They slowly migrated to new places.  No matter how long we waited to mow to allow them to reseed, our bonnet shaped blue flowers stopped showing up in the same spot over time.

The Bluebonnets bloom with a brilliant display for a short while around March and April.  After their dramatic show, we are left with just the memory of their glory until the next spring.  The little flower doesn’t know what the next season will hold.  Sometimes God calls it to bloom somewhere new.

It will still be a Bluebonnet but its seed may be blown to another place to shine God’s glory.  The new plant blooms happily wherever God plants it the next season.  We are sort of like that in our relationship with Christ. Just because we served Him and blossomed in a place for a season doesn’t mean God will continue to use us in that same place again.

Our bluebonnets made me think of II Cor. 5:17.

This verse speaks of when we accept Christ as our Savior and become a new creation through our relationship with Him.  While true, this change in us continues as we grow closer to Him and spend time in His word.  As my relationship with Jesus deepens and I learn more about Him, I realize how little I understand the mystery that is Christ and the salvation we have through Him.  He continues to fascinate, teach, and amaze me everyday.

In Philippians 2:12, the Apostle Paul says to work out our salvation with fear and trembling. It is an on going process.  It takes time to grow in our understanding of Him.

Bluebonnets don’t spend all of their time blooming and enjoying the sunshine.  There are quiet times when they wait to plant their seeds, they wait for those seeds to germinate, and they wait to grow.  There is a lot of waiting in growth but they are still doing what God called them to do.  They are still Bluebonnets even while waiting to bloom.

I think we are the same way.  There will be times of just being quiet and waiting for the next season when He calls us to blossom.  All the while, we are to be spending time with Him and growing in our relationship with Him.  Waiting isn’t a passive thing.  It is an active time of serving and growing in our walk with Christ.

My husband and I are growing closer to each other and Christ everyday. Life is different as empty nesters but still fun.  We wake up wondering what the day will hold and trust God to provide and take care of us.

None of us know what the next season of our life holds but God does. This spring as the sweet smelling blue Texas flowers miraculously pop up their pretty heads, I know God is still at work all around us.  He has a plan.  I can’t wait to see the wildflowers and to discover where God will plant them this year.

Does God have you in a new season of life or are you in a season of waiting?

We are made to shine His glory through our lives in every season of life.  Listen to Him and follow Him wherever He is leading you.  There is nothing more exciting than to see God work!

Here is a link for seeds to grow your own bluebonnets.

You will need to wait to plant them until the fall.  They have to germinate until the springtime.  If you get a chance, stop by and see our Texas wildflowers.  They are spectacular!  You won’t regret it.

Yeehaw, girlfriend!
