Where Do Babies Come From? – God’s Lap

Reading Time: 6 minutes

Where Do Babies Come From? – God’s Lap.  On February 25, 2020, God, in His infinite goodness and grace blessed our family with a precious gift.  He gave our oldest daughter and son-in-law a beautiful baby girl and we became new grandparents.  God sent us a blessing fresh from His lap.

This post is a tribute to my Kinsley.

As I held our little gift for the first time, I thought about the fact that she was just in the lap of God and had the breath of God so recently breathed into her precious little lungs.

She is so new; I imagine I can still feel His fingerprints on her.  Closing my eyes, I wonder if my hands can still feel the warmth of His big, beautiful hands on her sweet, baby self.

Genesis 2:7 New Living Translation (NLT)

Then the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person.

I breath in the smell of her precious baby head and wonder if it is the fragrance of Heaven still lingering on her.  Have you ever noticed that a baby’s breath never smells bad?  In my mind, it is because you can smell the breath of God so recently breathed into their lungs.

Years ago, two of my dear friends became grandparents for the first time and it inspired me to write a story.  I would like to share it with you.  With the birth of my new granddaughter, this story is now more meaningful.  As I read it now, it sounds as if I described my sweet daughter and precious son-in-law when I wrote it.

In honor of our baby girl, Kinsley, who recently came from God’s lap.

Here is where babies come from, God’s lap.

Your Granny loves you so very much my darling, Kinsley.

In God’s Lap

I awoke to the sound of deep laughter, rich and beautiful to my ears.

This is the sound of my Creator.  To me He is love and my whole world.  As I lay in His lap, all around us the Heavenly Beings never stop saying He is Holy, Mighty and Just.

I am a newly created soul.

The other beings here say we are special to our Creator.  He keeps us close to Him at all times.  There are so many of us new ones but He is able to give each of us His constant attention and love.  As He shapes each of us into His image, I can feel and know His love deep within my heart.  I have never known any place or time other than this.  I do not know what it is to want or need because He provides everything.

To our right, stands One who is the Creator’s Son.

His Son is perfect in every way.  My God’s Son is known by many names like Jesus, the Son of Man, and the Lamb who was slain.  He wears a banner saying Faithful and True.  He has a beautiful White Horse and always appears to be ready and waiting to go somewhere.

I heard the Creator say to His Son, “Don’t go yet, wait a little longer, Son; I have special plans for this little one”.  He looks lovingly at me when He says this.  Jesus plays with me and makes me laugh.  He is like my Creator and I see His love for me is in His eyes.

I know Jesus will never leave me because he loves me so much.

God, my Creator sits on a throne made of every color; a circle is around His throne like a rainbow made of bright green.  There are many beings dressed in white surrounding the throne with crowns of gold.  When I look up, I hear noises the Creator calls thunder and bright flashes of light He named lightning.

I am not afraid because my Almighty God protects me.  All of these beings around the throne worship and adore my Creator.  They say He is worthy to receive glory, and honor, and power and He is.

My Creator loves me dearly.

God tells me He created something called a “family” for me.

He said there is a woman called a mother waiting for me.  The Creator made her special just for me in His image.  She is all the wisdom, softness, and loveliness that I know in my Creator.

When He tells of her, I see Him smile when He thinks of how much He loves her.

This mother is perfect for me, He says.  She is funny, smart, compassionate, beautiful, and kind.  She will meet my every need.  My mother will carry me and take care of me because He thought of every detail and prepared her for this moment.  Sometimes she might cry and think she is not able to do all of this.

He tells me I am to help her and teach her how to care for me.  My Creator says He will be there always and speak to her in her heart.  He promises me she will love me almost as much as He does.

My Creator begins to laugh a deep and hearty laugh.

I look into His loving face and ask Him why He laughs.  He then begins to tell me of my Father.  This man he created pleases Him very much; I can’t wait to meet him.  He says He created Him to be like His Son, Jesus.

He is faithful and true, beautiful, brave, and strong, just like Jesus.

I tell him I still do not understand the laughter.  He has a twinkle in His eye when he says, “You will understand when you meet him”.   While He tells me of this family, I begin to drift off to sleep in His arms.  I can feel His big, strong Hands cradling me.

When I awake, I am inside somewhere new to me.

Floating in a protective bubble around me, I kick out at it and sometimes I hear giggling and voices that are so nice.  This is fun!  I miss being in my Creator’s lap but I know He is still here with me.  I can feel His presence and I am not afraid.

After a while, the bubble squeezes me and the voices get louder.  The bubble squeezes me more and more and I move toward a light.  “Hey!  Turn off that bright light.  Why am I so cold?  I don’t like this.  I let them know I do not like this!”

Oh, good.  Warmth…and wait…. are you my mother?  The Creator told me about you.  He was right you are soft and beautiful.  I know your voice.  I already love you.  Cuddling with you is nice.  I recognize that other voice, too.  You must be the father my Creator told me about.  You do look like His Son.  I can’t wait to play with you. Now I understand His laughter.  We will have fun together!

This will be a great life.

Praying you will spend some time praising God and worshiping Him during this strange season in our history.

John 14:27 New Living Translation (NLT)

27 “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give.  So don’t be troubled or afraid.

This virus isn’t a surprise to God.  Our Creator longs to bless us with rest, so enjoy it.  He will take care of everything else.  He is our Provider and Sustainer and isn’t about to stop providing for us now.

God inspired me to write a post last month called, “When God Says Rest”.  You can read it HERE.

I pray you will spend some time resting and using the imagination God gave you during this season of “social distancing”.

I love you all,
